Oh wow. It’s been almost a month. Oopsies. If nothing else,
my lack of consistent blogging is a testament to the crazy pace that we’ve been
keeping up with this summer. It seems like only yesterday we were seeing the
first spring blooms and pulling summer-weight cardigans out of storage. We’ve
fastforwarded through the steamy days of August (extremely steamy this year),
the fireworks of early July, and those first brilliantly sunny days of summer.
Wow.
It’s almost September, which I think might just be my favorite
season of the year. It’s a season of anticipation and change and starting over
anew. Kids going back to school, new notebooks, and stocked cupboards in
college apartments. The best television shows go back to regular programming,
stores rotate their inventory to sweaters and boots, and the evenings turn
crisp while we’re rooting through our closets for sweatshirts we were sure we’d
never need again. Gosh I love this season. Even though I wouldn’t say I’m a big
fan of change, I’m a huge proponent of starting fresh. A new beginning, a clean
slate. And it turns out that just as the seasons are changing, I’m gearing up
for a big life change too: I’m moving back to Pittsburgh!
Ya’ll have to know how happy this makes me. After nearly two
years of loneliness and homesickness and driving (and driving and driving and
driving), I’m finally getting the opportunity to go back to be with the people
that I love most. And just as importantly, I’m getting a chance at a new job
that seems like it’s going to be such a better fit for my personality. I can’t
tell you the relief that I felt when I heard the good news the day before M and
I left for vacation. I’m feeling so blessed and relieved and excited and scared
that I can’t even believe it. All that aside, there are a million and half
things that need to be completed before I can even start thinking about this
new job, so I’m trying to give 150% at work in the meantime to try to tie up
the straggly loose ends of my current job.
In other news, we had just a fabulous vacation in the Cape
the first week of August. It was exactly what we wanted: hot days on sandy
beaches, cool nights drinking beers on the deck and watching baseball games,
rustic beach houses, and divey breakfast joints. I think there were several
days that M ate nothing but lobster and jelly donuts. We snoozed on lounge
chairs, read summer books, ate deliciously fresh seafood and walked for Ben
& Jerrys.
I’ll share a couple of my favorite pictures from vacation,
and hopefully we’ll put the rest on Facebook soon.
Dinner at a fantastic pizza place in Hyannis.
Docking the ferry in Martha's Vineyard.
M's nightly lobster.
Cheers to our two year anniversary!
So I guess that’s it for right now. I’m focusing on getting
life back on track and getting back into the weekly routine while I enjoy these
last couple months in the District. I’m also taking on the mindboggling task of
looking for a home and getting preapproved for a mortgage, so there are more
than enough things to take care of after work. All of this seems wildly grown
up, which is both beautiful and frightening. And fabulous. J
To new homes and changing seasons,
Lia
